Selection of members of Oxford High School Athletic Hall of Fame

Any alumnus or member of the Screening Committee may nominate an individual for membership in the Athletic Hall of Fame in one or all of the three calendar periods.

Three calendar periods are as follows:

Period I                        10-15 years following completion of athletic participation

Period II                       16-25 years

Period III                     over 25 years

The nominator(s) shall provide sufficient information to document the nominee’s qualifications to be considered for election to the Hall of Fame.  All nominations shall be submitted to the Screening Committee for consideration.

Each Hall of Fame candidate shall be classified in one of the three periods.

The number of nominees to be inducted each year from each period shall be as follows:  at least two nominees from Period I and at least one each from Periods II and III.  The total number of inductees shall not exceed 5 for the combined three periods.  The exception will be the initial induction in 2006.

Selection Committee

  1. The purpose of the selection committee shall be to review nominations and select, by ballot, worthy candidates to the Hall of Fame.
  2. To be eligible to serve on the selection committee, an individual must:
    1. Be a former athlete at Oxford High School
    2. Be at least 25 years old

An exception to the above eligibility is that the Athletic Director, Principal, or Vice Principal may serve on the committee if they do not meet the above requirements.

    1. The selection committee will consist of a committee chairman, secretary, and treasurer and will be limited to a total of 7 members.  Members maintain their eligibility and voting privileges by attending a minimum of 50 percent of the scheduled meetings from the final selection vote one year to the first selection vote the following year.  Members may resign from the committee anytime they chose to do so, verbally or in writing, by contacting the committee chairman.  The current selection committee may solicit new members in any manner they deem appropriate.  Qualified individuals seeking membership on the selection committee should contact any current committee member.  Upon receiving notice of such a request, the committee chairman will inform the membership of the request at the next scheduled meeting, and contingent upon meeting the eligibility requirements the applicant must receive 2/3 votes from the quorum present.

Selection Process

Each year nominations will be accepted by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.  The timetable for these nominations will be posted in local newspapers with a deadline for acceptance of nominations.  The committee chairman will convene a meeting once nominations are finalized.  This meeting will occur approximately 3 months prior to the induction ceremony.  All selection committee members will receive a list of names eligible for Hall of Fame induction at this meeting.  The list of eligible nominees will then be considered for induction through the election process.

Election

  1. Up to five athletes may be inducted each year (maximum).  An exception was given in the inaugural year.
  2. One non-athlete may be inducted each year.
  3. Election will use a point system format.  Each voting member will rank 15 candidates on a point system.  The voting member will assign the number 15 to number 1.  The top ten point totals will then be placed on the final ballot.  The final ballot voting will follow.  Each voting member will rank the ten using the same point system once the final four athletes have been selected through the points system.  Each athlete will then need to retain 2/3 vote of the quorum present for induction.
  4. Any non-athlete who was voted in using top-ten point value system will also be considered for induction.  The non-athlete must receive 2/3 of the votes of the quorum present.
  5. Two additional candidates from the era prior to 1940 may be elected to the Hall of Fame each year at the discretion of the selection committee.  The individuals also must receive a 2/3 vote of the quorum present.
  6. A Hall of Fame Committee member who name appears on the ballot as a Hall of Fame candidate will not take part in the final voting process.

Committee members: Mr. Ernest Boss (Superintendent), Mr. Roger Bacon (Retired OHS Principal), Mr. Ron Springer (Assistant Principal), Mr. John Doldoorian (Athletic Director) and Mr. David Grenier (Principal).
