New feature starting on this menu - “DID YOU KNOW” Our school lunches have been healthier than most of you realize. We have hidden good nutrition in our menu items for years. We hope you our customers are now ready to hear how good for you the lunches are. Many parents call with questions. I’m happy to report these calls are concerns for healthy items. I’d love to hear how you like this feature. The menu analysis will return later in the year. POS (POINT OF SALE SYSTEM) is a computerized system for school meals that has been used successfully since 2003. Students have their own personal lunch room account based on a 4 digit pin number. Students access their accounts on the pin pads located at every register.
We encourage parents and students to deposit money into the student's account. There are many benefits that this system provides:
*For every $25 deposited in a K-4 student account the student will receive a free meal
*For every $30 deposited in a 5-12 student account the student will receive a free meal
*Prepaid accounts allows parents to deposit money in the student's account. NO LOST MONEY
*Lunch lines move faster when meals are prepaid
*For students receiving free or reduced meals, their meals will be rung up as all other meals. No one will
know whether they are receiving a free or reduced meal.
FREE and REDUCED MEALS Free and reduced price meals are available to students unable to pay the full price of meals according to criteria based on household size and income. For families meeting Federal income guidelines, meals at school can be obtained for little or no cost. Applications are available at each school and at the Superintendent's Office. A new application needs to be completed and submitted at the beginning of the school year. Only one application needs to be submitted per family. Please make sure these forms are filled in completely before submitting. Click here to print out and application. Please fill it out completely and mail back to Angela Scolaro, 5 Sigourney Street, Oxford, MA 01540.
There is no overt identification of students who receive a free or reduced price meal. Our computerized point of service system uses the same format for all students. Accounts are automatically setup for students who qualify for free meals. Students select meals and enter their number at the cashier.
THE NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM is a Federal and State regulated program. No local tax money is used for this program. All funds are derived from federal, state and money collected from students and staff. Federal regulations control the menu planning. Fat is not to exceed 30% of calories and less than 10% of calories from saturated fat on a weekly basis. These target and others are set to meet RDA guidelines. We will publish a complete meal on every menu. For every two weeks published you will find we meet all regulated targets. This assumes your child has made wise choices and is consuming their complete meal. Regulations can only help us offer good choices.
LOCAL WELLNESS POLICY The Oxford Public Schools is committed to providing a school environment that enhances learning and development of life long wellness. On April 25, 2006 the Oxford School Committee adopted this into policy. Click here to read Oxford's Wellness Policy.
